NNI associate director and USIDSN co-founder Stephanie Carroll Rainie and NNI graduate research associate and USIDSN co-founder Desi Rodriguez-Lonebear are invited presenters at the 2017 National Congress of American Indians’ (NCAI) Mid Year Conference, which takes place in Uncasville, CT, from June 12 to 15.

On June 12, Rainie and Rodriguez-Lonebear will take part in the pre-conference Data Partners Gathering. Their presentation, entitled “Indigenous Nation Data Governance: Data for Nation Rebuilding,” will detail the history of and current strategies for the governance of Indigenous data by tribes, other governments, nonprofit organizations, and corporations. Rodriguez-Lonebear also will present results from the NCAI Tribal Data Survey, which she conducted as an NCAI Data Fellow.

On June 14, Rainie and Rodriguez-Lonebear will participate in the 12^th annual NCAI Tribal Leader-Scholar Forum, themed “Sovereign Infrastructure: Building Our Communities through Our Values.” Their presentation, “Laying the Groundwork: Why Tribes Need Data & Research,” is part of the breakout session, “Building Tribal Data Infrastructure.” They and the other panelists aim to engage attendees in imagining new pathways for decolonizing data and Indigenizing data governance.
